Letters to the INS - John Updike - novelist

John Updike had become a leading American novelist with Rabbit, Run in 1960.

In 1972 he had just published a sequel, Rabbit Redux, which, as Wikipedia puts it, "expressed his confusion and ambivalence toward the social and political changes" of the 1960s. His support for John and Yoko was thus unexpected. Updike died in 2009.

"They cannot do this great country any harm," Updike wrote, "and might do it some good."
