Jasper Johns by the early seventies had achieved worldwide fame as an artist who appropriated popular iconography for painting, starting with his "Flags" in the mid-1950s.




Johns wrote that Yoko's "work in theater, music, films, and writing has been relevant to the more advanced forms of art activity that exist here."
